Intel thinks big with future

Perhaps the title you dream of something . Yes, I believe that we have entered a competition to see who 's got bigger is better, or who is going to have bigger will be better in a few years. Anyway, that's always good to know what companies think of their future. And here both AMD and Intel , who will speak today, play some cards face up.

Intel has announced future plans for the market of supercomputers, which are gradually trying to make a hole traditionally led by IBM and where AMD has managed to scratch something . Intel Knights Corner will present the evolution of Knights Ferry , and as all changes will bring significant improvements.
First we talk about 50 core process, based on 22 nanometer and Trigat transistors that will continue the x86 architecture , but will be very basic and simple compared to any general-purpose processor. Knights Corner come as his predecessor in a card format PCI-Express, although it may also be sold at racks for use in large servers and data centers.

It is this last his great use: large data centers and supercomputers , as the Japanese supercomputer 'K' which has recently been located on the first position in the TOP500. This weekend will discuss the new most powerful supercomputer in Spanish, of course, has replaced the familiar MareNostrum .

Obviously, neither Knights Corner Knights Ferry and reach the domestic market and its price is still unknown. According to Intel, Knights Corner , which belong to the new architecture MIC ( Many Integrated Core ) can be programmed in C, C + + and FORTRAN ( do i = 1, n ... enddo ) and will always support other architecture ( ie, we have a CPU principal, for example Intel Xeon, and a PCIe-connected Knights Corner), being much more efficient and powerful parallel computing. As you will have of course the great difficulty of this new architecture is to get efficient algorithms that maximize the capabilities of existing hardware
