Sony Ericsson is betting everything to Android


The Japanese company introduced two phones based on Google's operating system: the Xperia ray, with a sophisticated design, and the Xperia active, waterproof. It is expected that these models will help the company to increase its 11% market share of smartphones based on Google's operating system. According to Sony Ericsson, by 2015 60% of handsets sold in the Asia / Pacific will be smartphones, and the company wants to get out of the market growing.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia active is a waterproof model that works if your fingers are wet, the company said, while the ray Xperia combines a slim device with a thickness of 9.4 millimeters. Among its benefits, available GPS sensor with A-GPS function, which could use the built-in geotagging system. It also has Facebook integration inside Sony Ericsson Xperia and access to more than 200 000 applications through the Android Market.

"We expect Xperia ray to the attention of consumers looking for the best combination of design and the ultimate in performance," said Daniel Sandblom, manager of the company. The Xperia ray includes a 1Ghz processor, Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine, 8.1 megapixel camera with Exmor R Mobile, front camera and video functions in HD (High Definition).

Both devices will be available globally from the third quarter of 2011.
